Head over to the ICA tonight for a side of music with your art. Zs are a Brooklyn band who deal in grayscale atmospheres. Their metallic sputters and whistles are extremely powerful when cast above their repetitive, dirge-like backing parts, marching you straight into the void. You’ll leave with minor anxiety and an appreciation for the expressiveness of raw sound. Martha Wainwright balances out their obliqueness with a scorched-earth emotional directness, which at first might seem like a strong descriptor for her mostly acoustic music. However, it swells and sweeps in the right places, standing up to the strength of her desires.
