Tonight at Flywheel Arts Collective there appears to be a showcase of mystical self-examination through music. Uruguayan transplant Juan Wauters of Queens, NY (formerly of the Beets) is in support of his May 12 sophomore LP release “Who Me?” mixing troubadour acoustic styling with pop melodies sung in Spanish and English. The Lentils are arriving from Brattleboro, VT in their downbeat reincarnation of the Happy Jawbone Family Band. Police Kittens will see Bob Fay and Andy Goulet vibing each other out on two slippery acoustic guitars in an improvisational conversation, and Robert Robinson of Northampton is taking time to support his first solo release “Connecticut River” from earlier this year that retains the lo-fi psychelectric elements of his band Sore Eros. Definitely all treats for those with a penchant for lyricism. Perhaps tonight is the perfect summer evening to follow Wauters in stepping out of the city and creating new traditions in pursuit of fresh air, summer mysteries, and sparse, delicate solo explorations.
