Wasn’t Hassle Fest the bomb? Well we here at this fine organization don’t ever slow down so join us as we turn the volume down (just a little) TONIGHT back at Cambridge Elks Lodge where Frankie Cosmos is waiting to obliterate our mid week malaise. The Greta Kline fronted intimate pop band, now a quartet, is soon releasing a dynamic new EP in which the group takes thing in an electronic direction. Teaser single “Sand” showcases the subtle transition and resembles a haunting, almost hollowed version of Frankie Cosmos’ enchanting indie rock in a way that recalls early Colleen Green. All of this is just the appetizer as the band prepares to release their new LP, the first with all four members sometime in 2016. In the meantime, we have their extensive back catalog of infectious lullaby rock to keep us bright and happy on this raw and rainy evening.
Coming out and joining the crew from NY are another set of weary travelers in the form of Columbus, Ohio’s All Dogs. A new album back in August saw the band slowing down their peppy pop punk and taking on a more melodic tone. But that’s not to say these folks aren’t still decidedly a rock band. Look no further than the creaky solos and grungy riffs of “Ophelia” and you realize the band hasn’t lost any of its power pop roots. On top of that, and representing our fine city, is the confessional bedroom pop compositions of Boston’s fabulous Brittle Brian. Sparse, catchy, and decidedly lo-fi in the truest sense the songs are blissful escapes from reality best heard with your eyes slightly closed. Some come in out of the cold and enter our pop rainbow’s warm embrace.
