Film is an audiovisual wondervehicle for broadcasting ideas. Unfortunately, even today’s self-conscious cinema doesn’t always stand up to the Bechdel test. Enter: Etheria. This night is all about the creepy, suspenseful, fantastical, action-packed opuses of today’s most ambitious female-identifying directors. Genre films are prime real estate for bending rules, and these directors are doing some seriously exciting work. Ursula Dabrowsky’s horror film INNER DEMONS kicks off the event, followed by six shorts from various American and international directors. Three horror films, two thrillers, one science fiction piece, and one fantasy film round out the evening. After all this glory, the night concludes with a reception at the Museum of Bad Art. Because film, because feminism, because four years of Etheria is a gift to us all! Join your fellow votaries of the fantastic at the Somerville Theatre.
