The Boston music-vet mesdames and gent [?] in the Monsieurs are having one busy weekend, what with supporting the Real Kids last night and now tonight’s trad-punk throwdown at Cambridge’s Lilypad, brought to you by the amiable croupiers at Can’t Stand Ya! and the Boston Hassle. For this alone they’d rate a Four Loko endorsement, if not for their bracing chop-shop garage-rock and utterly unchained vocal commitment. New Orleans’s Buck Biloxi and the Fucks give enough of ‘em to bring the minimalist, no-time-wasted, pithily titled tunes from their Culture Demanufacturer up north for us—“Rock and Roll Sucks,” indeed. Pretty much the only band you (well, I) need at this point, like if your favorite early-‘80s groups were evaporated into a punk-rock Sea Monkeys kit, regrown, and then recorded on one of those wax-tube rigs by the Feelies’ engineer. Heavy Lids, our other NOLA friends, can’t frigging spell “Annihilation,” but that’s totally meta and appropriate for their heavy stun-gun horror-organ Robitussin-Ramones attack. Cambridge’s own White Pages appreciate the no-frills approach of simpler times but keep things up-to-date with their own enviably crisp, snap-crackle-pop hurry-up songs. Keep an eye out for conceptual artist/weed-smoker Giorgio Murderer and for Andy California, whose act is like, prepare yourself for pretty deep, swampy, one-man boxcar moan, etc. 10pm, $5–10 sliding scale, All Ages.
