Birthday parties are great and all, but they’re especially rad when the party doubles as a show with a solid lineup. And in the grand scheme of birthday shows, this one is shaping up to be a sick one at hardcore haven Elk’s Lodge in Cambridge.
Dropdead is teaming up with Siege drummer Robert Williams to play some of Siege’s songs for the final time. In true hardcore fashion, you can expect a lot of aggressive vocals, throbbing guitar and bass, all complimented by Williams’ cymbal crashing, whirlwind drumming. Cleveland thrashers Fuck You Pay Me are heading out east for this show as well. Their hardcore sound definitely fits the lineup for this show, but their guitar breakdowns and the lead singer’s unique voice set the band apart. As if this doesn’t all sound awesome already, Shattered Silence are getting together to play live for the first time in 20 years. Expect them to bring it back to the old school hardcore days, where riffs are more methodical, tempos switch at the drop of a drumstick, and shredding during a vocal interlude is more than appropriate. Stranger is also on the bill, lending yet another musical layer to the night thanks to their witchy vocals, comparatively melodic guitar breakdowns, and unexpected key choices in the hardcore scene. So come out to Elk’s Lodge tonight to celebrate happy birthdays and awesome bands. Because nothing says “happy 55th birthday!” like headbanging with the birthday boy.
