The buzz is back. Twelve years after creating his horrific magnum opus, director Tobe Hooper returns to his take on Southern culture with a bigger-budgeted sequel that’s heavy on black humor and outlandish style. He even got Dennis Hopper to co-star in it. The result? Not as scary as the first, but still plenty of fun. In the backwoods of Texas, a brutal murder recorded during a radio show catches the attention of eccentric former Texas Ranger Lefty (Hopper), the uncle of two victims from the previous film. Fueled by vengeance, he partners up with the local radio DJ who captured the crime on tape to stop the cannibalistic clan of murderers once and for all. What ensues is chainsaw combat in an abandoned carnival, a hippie with no qualms about eating people and weird sexual innuendos with Leatherface. What more do you want? It’ll even be shown in 35mm.
