“Intersections” by Anila Quayyum Agha is a laser-cut steel lantern installed in a room; it patterns the audience in designs created by light and shadow. The shapes and forms Agha uses are inspired by traditional Islamic architecture, reminiscent of the Alhambra Palace in Granada, Spain. The palace harkens back to a time when Islamic and Western cultures thrived in coexistence, 1,000 years ago during the Moorish era of Spain. Agha is an world-renowned and awarded Pakistani-American artist whose work bears particular importance today, as she encourages the viewer to consider global politics and multiple cultures intertwined with each other.
