Boston’s Curmudgeon are a 3 piece, female-fronted hardcore band formed in 2011. Amygdala, a single-sided 12” EP released by Not Normal Tapes, Parade Of Spectres and IFB Records, is their latest effort, following up their self-titled and Human Ouroboros EPs. Curmudgeon play powerviolence with with strong influences from crust and metal, and a little d-beat for good measure. The 12” mixes sludgy riffs with with blistering fast parts, and an overall atmosphere both pissed and loathing. The lyrics are smart and full of indignation, covering topics including sexism, rape culture, and cruelty to animals among other things. The record’s packaging is a strong point, with screened covers, dust jackets, and obi strips. Overall, killer EP. Stream below.
