SUMMARY:Arthur\, Lane\, The Glue\, Change of Plans & more
DESCRIPTION:ARTHUR is a melted pop dreamer. Girl group heroines of yesteryear dance inside their mausoleums to this music. Pop music\, yes\, but something is wrong. And the beautiful\, it bleeds melancholy\, as the melody soils itself. From Philly like a warbly laser. They’re coming to get you Barbara. And the rest of their names are Lane\, The Glue\, and Change of Plans. Those are the other 3 bands on the bill people! The Glue are Boston’s reigning torch bearers of Richman naivete indie pop\, or at least they sound like it. Let them take you to Back Bay and on all sorts of wild rides with their stripped down barely-there-best-kind-of-rock. Lane are a new band built from other bands. They feature members of the Craters\, the Channels\, Palehound\, and Sundog! Their steez is an experimental twin guitar affront following in the footsteps of the likes of Slint\, Women\, and Each Other. Dang. Change of Plans meanwhile are classic dream pop and post-punk dosed with some of that 21st century math. Brookline Teen Center is where this magic goes down. There’s already a glow on this show. Don’t miss! Not every show has a glow you know. \nALL AGES $10 suggested donation \nChallenger by ARTHUR \nTickets:\nhttps://www.digboxoffice.com/events/95314408/arthur-laneand-tba-brookline-teen-center

SUMMARY:Hibernian Hall presents: Bilal Live
DESCRIPTION:If there was one R&B artist for whom the neo-soul categorization seemed limiting\, it was Philadelphia native Bilal. None of his recordings resembled the sycophantic worship of soul artists who thrived in the ’60 and ’70s\, and it wasn’t just because his voice — classically trained\, capable of singing opera in seven languages — was so unique. While some inspirations were detectable\, his recordings were wholly modern and became increasingly creative. His individuality led to being dropped from a major label\, and he went several years without releasing any solo material. Through evangelism from his peers and word of mouth from his early fans\, Bilal gained an insatiable following and was supported by sympathetic independent labels\, where he was finally able to thrive creatively.

SUMMARY:PROMO: Sense Writing with Madelyn Kent @Art & Soul
DESCRIPTION:How bad is your writer’s block? New York playwright and director Madelyn Kent is bringing Sense Writing to Cambridge this weekend for a two-day workshop and it might just be the approach that’s been alluding you. Sense Writing has been called “yoga for writing\,” and it’s no surprise that the workshop takes place at Art and Soul Yoga or has been written up in yoga publications as well as literary journals. Kent has about 100 gentle exercises that she weaves together with writing prompts to get your creative juices flowing again. Cambridge\, which has no shortage of writers and yoga practitioners\, might be the ideal place for such a workshop. Still\, skeptics will appreciate the endorsement Kent has drawn since founding Sense Writing in 2012. \nAs Erin Ward of Yoga Weekly acknowledges: \nThe link between the articulate movement and the flow of writing is often not readily apparent. In fact\, at times they are at odds. We go to yoga to escape the mind’s chatter and hope for that divine creativity to awaken through exertion and through breath. But Madelyn has a different approach to calling upon this ghost of creative flow. She’s asking us to simply try less. To let spirituality and creativity separate and not be so hard on ourselves. She offers a space where people can give themselves permission to slow down and draw awareness to subtle movements of the body and by doing so reawakens a fascination with the world\, both on and off the page …Turn off the chitter-chatter of the mind\, breathe\, focus\, let go and run with the words that come. \nArt and Soul Yoga is at 91 Hampshire St.\, in the Wellington-Harrington neighborhood not far from Inman and Kendall squares. Information is here. \nPresented in collaboration with Storefront for Somatic Practice\, dedicated to the exploration of everyday movement\, its foundation in childhood development\, and its role in the arts.
