DESCRIPTION:The makeup we wear (or choose not to wear) is an expression of the self that reflects social\, cultural\, and political realities. By painting our faces\, we craft how we present ourselves to the world. “Face Value: Makeup\, Art\, and Identity\,” on view at Dorchester Art Project August 3-31\, treats makeup history as a social history. “Face Value” features 16 local and international artists who explore their relationship to makeup through the lens of gender\, sexual\, political\, or cultural identities. \nAn opening reception will be held Saturday August 3rd from 7-10 PM\, followed by drag performances by Mick Beth\, Dragon\, Lachrymose\, and Akira Oni at 10 PM. \nA closing reception will be held Saturday August 31st from 7-10 PM\, featuring a pre-loved clothing pop-up by Qwear\, an online community forum that is raising LGBTQ+ voices in fashion. DESCRIPTION:OPENING RECEPTION ON AUGUST 3RD SEE YOU THERE! \nSectional is a collaborative installation toying with the mistrust of reality. Boston & Providence artists exploit the gray area between privacy and safety through an immersive living room experience. Renee Silva\, Chloe DuBois\, Keaton Fox\, and Casey Mcnulty collaborate as Growth Spurt. Together they seek to push viewers in and out of comfort and confusion through interactive new media\, art objects\, furniture\, clothing and video. \nGrowth Spurt is a collective of New England artists producing collaborative projects using sculpture\, video\, painting\, and new media.  In a world of options\, how do you get good at everything? If everyone in the world came together to share their skill sets\, what could be accomplished? The collective seeks to create an accessible space where specialization and multi-disciplinary skill sets can come together to be shared\, tested\, exhibited\, and explored. Artists in the collective are combining their diverse skills to explore the relationship between anxiety and comfort surrounding commercial consumerism\, memory\, and communication. Sectional is Grown Spurt’s inaugural exhibition as a group\, this coming-together of ideas and practice will be the first of many more visual art and installation experiences to come. \nmore about the Growth Spurt Artists: \nKeaton Fox is a multidisciplinary artist who uses art and technology to reflect the digital disarray of the modern world. Fueled by child-like fascination and frustrations\, Fox combines the natural with the virtual to create visual experiments that playfully explore the varied realities of our time. She has exhibited nationally\, internationally\, physically\, and digitally.  \nChloe DuBois is a Boston-based artist whose work explores visual poetics through the relationships of materials. Her background in carpentry and fabrication greatly influences the utilitarian characteristics of her work. By combining found\, ready made material through soft and delicate means\, DuBois aims to catalyze conversation on the human condition. \nRenee Silva is a visual artist and educator in Providence\, RI and Boston\, MA. Her paintings map cognitive spaces studying subjectivity of communication in between spaces of media and language. Using tertiary colors provocative of queerness\, they reproduce everyday icons and imagery into androgynous\, new hybrid forms.  \nCasey McNulty is a boston based artist working in mediums from fibers to computer code. Through a research based practice informed by historical and theoretical perspectives on art\, writing\, and technology\, she designs media and experiences to “instruct and delight”. \nDorchester Art Project is a community-driven art space in Fields Corner. Our mission is to serve artists in Dorchester\, Boston and Greater Boston by providing affordable studio\, performance\, gallery and community gathering space. We are run by Brain Arts Organization which is a 501(c)3 nonprofit and volunteer collective of artists who believe in art centric programming and conscious cultural empowerment.
