DESCRIPTION:Rena Detrixhe\, an artist working and living in Oklahoma\, has an interest in the ways humans have impacted our soil. Her area in Oklahoma has been rapidly developed over the past century. In contrast\, Detrixhe slows down and pays attention to the natural elements of the landscape. Using red dirt transported from Oklahoma\, Detrixhe meticulously ground and sifted the dirt into a fine dust\, which she drew patterns into during a performance at Abigail Ogilvy Gallery earlier this month. Detrixhe explores the national implications of the red dirt in Red Dirt Rug – “grit\, perseverance\, sorrow\, pain\, spirit\, resilience.”

SUMMARY:Morgan Evans-Weiler's "Process and Perception" Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Process and Perception is a collection of drawings examining forms of permutation\, iteration\, time\, and blandness. These works convey a place where an infinite potential of imaginings and realizations are possible while providing the viewer with concrete examples of those potentials.  \nWhen given over to an audience\, the drawings can be imagined as an experience of that felt time and a vastness of imagined or concrete space. The works in the show are interconnected in that they all begin with a form and a process. The artist imagines a space for a procedure to occur while allowing the materials and the process to dictate the result.  \nThe show also includes a sound installation titled Structures: Metal. The installation uses resonating sheet metal and examines the architectural and acoustic properties of these objects. The installation will include a set of drawings illustrating the properties of the individual metal pieces and their relation to one another.

SUMMARY:Opening Reception: Fashion Forward
DESCRIPTION:As part of the SoWa First Friday\, KABINETT will be holding an opening reception for their fall exhibition Fashion Foward on September 7th from 5 to 9 pm. Fashion Forward highlights both fine artists who commented on the fashion world to the drawings of famous fashion designers. The exhibition will feature paintings and drawings by Yves Saint Laurent\, Pierre Balmain\, Hubert de Givenchy\, Karl Lagerfeld\, Alexander McQueen\, Christian Lacroix\, Antonio Lopez\, and Christian Dior. Alongside the illustrations will be iconic items of clothing\, from one of Mr. Rogers’ neckties to an Andy Warhol “Souper” dress. \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:At the Brookline Arts Center\, AIR Dave Bermingham has created a site-specific installation based on his Occhi scultpures. Bermingham’s works are made up of discarded domestic items and dinnerware\, and the artist encourages visitors to contribute objects from their own lives to be incorporated into the final installation. Along with the Occhi installation\, Bermingham will also debut a new body of work he titles Cant Slang\, blending poetry\, morse code\, and sculpture. \n
