SUMMARY:Future Forecast: A Slow Fashion Exchange
DESCRIPTION:Future Forecast: A Slow Fashion Exchange\nSaturday\, Oct 13th 5-9pm Workshops Sunday Oct 14th 10-5:30pm\nAt Zone 3 // 267 Western Ave\, Allston MA \nJoin us Saturday\, October 13th for an evening of slow fashion futurism: a runway show and pop up market of sustainable fashion featuring Blueprints Workshop (Blueprints for Sewing)\, Slow Process\, Practice Space\, Dyer Maker\, Tree House Farms\, Nathalia JMag\, Vivant Vintage\, Emmy Ember\, with floral design and botanical jewelry by Thistle and Bone. We will also host a series of slow fashion DIY workshops on Sunday\, October 14th. \nFuture Forecast: A Slow Fashion Exchange will explore and celebrate ‘Slow Fashion’ – a philosophy that focuses on sustainability\, local sourcing\, recycling\, accessibility\, mindfulness\, and community. \nThe fashion industry\, like many others\, is rife with problems. These problems touch every part of human experience\, from the unsafe conditions and insufficient wages workers face\, to the effect of pesticides\, finishing chemicals and synthetic dyes on our environment\, to the socially accepted disposability of clothing and the waste generated by the industry.\nSlow Fashion seeks to explore alternative modes of fashion that shift the focus away from mass production\, profit\, and status and towards compassion\, creativity\, connection and craftsmanship.\nThe Future Forecast pop up market will allow slow fashion purveyors to show and sell their work and spark conversation in the community. We hope to include demos\, textile education\, a photo booth\, and other interactive projects to engage attendees in reconsidering what fashion means to them.\nWorkshops on Sunday will allow participants to try some of the handcrafting techniques featured in the Blueprints Workshop collection\, including felting\, natural dyeing\, weaving\, and creating floral jewelry. \nMore information can be found at www.blueprintsforsewing.com/futureforecast

SUMMARY:Opening Reception & Fashion Presentation: Uneasy Beauty
DESCRIPTION:The public is invited to join in on a light reception and fashion show at Brockton’s Fuller Craft Museum. \n\nDiscomfort Zone: Fashion and Adornment from MassArt is a collaborative project with the Massachusetts College of Art and Design\, marking the latest in a history of partnerships between our two institutions. The alluring student works in Discomfort Zone originate from two MassArt departments: Fashion Design and Jewelry and Metalsmithing. The students\, tasked with creating uncomfortable works\, composed objects that hinder bodily movement\, inflict corporal pain\, and provoke emotional distress. Their imaginative garments and edgy adornments push the boundaries of what is considered wearable – physically\, aesthetically\, and psychologically.\n\nDiscomfort Zone was organized in conjunction with Uneasy Beauty: Discomfort in Contemporary Adornment as part of Mass Fashion\, a consortium of eight cultural institutions brought together to celebrate the many facets of the Bay State’s fashion culture.\nUneasy Beauty: Discomfort in Contemporary Adornment is sponsored by the Caroline R. Graboys Fund\, the Coby Foundation\, the Society of North American Goldsmiths (SNAG) and the Brockton Community Council.\n\nThis exhibition is present in conjunction with a component from Mass Art fashion and metal smithing students\nRSVP HERE.\nTickets re $20-25\nThe main exhibition will be on view from October 6th – April 21st 2019.\nThe Mass Art component is on view from October 13th – November 4th.

SUMMARY:YES Fest 2: Teen Music & Arts Festival
DESCRIPTION:Flyer by Eden Smith \nRecognizing a need for inclusive all ages spaces for teen artists and musicians\, YES Fest formed in 2017 out of a diverse coalition of teen volunteers supported by music and youth workers. \nThe first YES Fest brought together musicians and artists of all styles and backgrounds across the Greater Boston area\, with a huge showing of fans and newcomers alike coming together to support their peers. \nIn the year since YES Fest 1\, YF has organized to put on regular events ranging from rock shows\, to art openings\, to its first annual teen Pride Ball; as well as expanding our committee to include more teen voices and perspectives from across Boston. \nThis year we’re back for YES Fest 2\, bringing back old friends along with a host of new teen artists and musicians. Curated for teens by teens\, the aim of YES Fest 2 is to provide a platform for teen artists as well as a safe\, inclusive space for teens looking to engage with like minded peers. \nYES Fest is produced in association w/ BRAIN Arts\, Zumix\, Brookline Teen Center\, West Suburban YCCA\, and Girls Rock Campaign Boston. \nCurrent Lineup: (+TBAs)\nNakedly\nProject Method\nTomtsu\nThe Laces\nJvsmine STVRS\nKaya\nTrash Rabbit\nVesper\nConstant Headache\nSnoozer\nCrying in Shades\nNick24K\nCarolina Schott\nLia Natalia \nABOUT THE PRESENTING ORGANIZATIONS \nGirls Rock Campaign Boston: \nGirls Rock Campaign Boston (GRCB) empowers girls to believe in themselves by providing a supportive community that fosters self-expression\, confidence and collaboration through musical education and performance. \nZumix: \nZUMIX is an East Boston-based nonprofit organization dedicated to building our community through music and creative technology. A core belief is that music is the most powerful means of developing adolescent self-identity. Our award-winning music and creative technology programming is designed to equip youth with the tools necessary to reach their full potential\, while creating a safe space for youth to explore who they are and who they want to be. Through community events\, ZUMIX provides access to top-quality arts experiences for a low-income\, under-served neighborhood. \nBrookline Teen Center: \nRecognizing the urgent need for a place where teens could learn\, grow and have fun\, Brookline natives\, Paul Epstein\, a Brookline High School social worker and his wife\, Saskia\, a non-profit director\, engaged a group of Brookline leaders and teens to explore the possibility of creating a teen center in Brookline in 2005. The vision was to create a place where Brookline youth could spend their out-of-school time in a safe place with both formal and informal activities centered around academic enrichment\, physical activity\, and socio-emotional health. In this way\, the Teen Center will meet the need of local teens for a constructive\, entertaining and affordable place to spend their out of school time and will be one of the only teen-only centers like it in the local area. \nSince 2005\, in collaboration with the Brookline Community Foundation\, Brookline teens and community leaders have been working to move the vision of the Brookline Teen Center forward. In 2011\, the organization received its 501(c) 3 status and began fundraising in earnest. In the fall of 2013 we opened our doors for business to the youth of Brookline. \nToday\, the BTC serves as a hub for out of school activities for Brookline youth. On Mondays the BTC is filled with middle school students participating in structured activities\, working on homework\, or just hanging out with friends. The rest of the week the BTC is open to high school students. Brookline teens come to the BTC with their ideas and we help bring them to life. In the last year\, we have supported teens with running a bamboo bike building workshop\, creating a makerspace\, and starting a Lego Robotics program. SUMMARY:+DOG+\, Underwear\, Margery Kempe
DESCRIPTION:Voice Heavy Noise Show \n+DOG+\, Underwear (CT)\, Margery Kempe \nAll Ages\n$10 Suggested Donation \nflyer art by Deb Obanla \nIt’s been noise talkin’ to you friend. Literally though\, that’s all it is\, this sess comin’ out of our mouths all day. The world is beyond fucked so what is the damn point in the daily debates? Might as well turn up the gain\, volume and fuzz fx on those convos\, throw a contact mic on yer spite and have a godforsaken noise show. Good harsh noise music isn’t necessarily that easy it’s just that when +DOG+\, Underwear and the duo of Margery Kempe do it it’s just simply unfuckupable. Because they get it. They use analog and digital means to create their soundscapes and whether they are aimin’ to scare or just give you a little catharsis you’ll be glad you came. It’s good. It’s loud\, it’s abrasive. It’s moving stuff! It’s comin at ya. It’s going in one ear and out the other and leaving a scar worth showing. So show up and meet the other 10 people who still give a shit about noise in this town. \n+DOG+\nhttps://dognoise.bandcamp.com/\nDegeneration 1 by +DOG+ \nUnderwear\nhttps://underwearmusic.bandcamp.com/music\nya Dwned by Underwear
