DESCRIPTION:The Young Novelists are a Toronto-based band fronted by husband and wife Graydon James and Laura Spink. Since the band’s inception they have played stages across the U.S. and Canada and released three full-length albums\, the most recent in May 2018 ’in city & country’. Their last record ‘made us strangers’ landed them a Canadian Folk Music Award for New/Emerging Artist\, a Vocal Group of the Year nomination\, and reached top 20 on !earshot’s and Stingray Music’s (formerly Galaxie) folk charts. The same year\, the band won the Grassy Hill Connecticut Folk Songwriting competition and James received the Ontario Art Council’s prestigious Colleen Peterson Songwriting Award.  \nSince 2016 Spink quit her job as a scientist\, they packed their things (and their five year old son Simon)\, and went on a massive North American tour. DESCRIPTION:Fluxus artist\, Tony Conrad\, is exhibited in a retrospective  at MIT’s List Center. \nHe once declared in an interview\, “You don’t know who I am\, but somehow\, indirectly\, you’ve been affected by things I did.” \nConrad was a multi media artists who’s work stretched beyond the boundaries of medium. He was a performer\, musician\, painter\, sculptor and much more. \n\nThis retrospective will be on view at both the MIT List Center and the Harvard Carpenter Center for the Arts. \nMovies will be screened in conjunction with this exhibition at Bartos Theater. See more about that here. \nIt will be on view at the List Center from 10/18-1/6 and at the Carpenter Center from 10/18-12/30 \nOn October 17th\, there will be an opening reception for the public. Described as “a serious—and seriously successful—queer history recovery project” by Publishers Weekly\, Brodell did extensive research for each portrait\, piecing together a life from historical accounts\, maps\, journals\, paintings\, drawings\, and photographs\, finding the heroic in the forgotten. \nRia Brodell is an artist and educator based in Boston who has had solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States and whose work has been featured in the Guardian\, ARTNews\, the Boston Globe\, and New American Paintings.
