It doesn’t really fit them. Maybe\nindustrial rhythm rock fits better. Minimal noise rock? Either\nway\, get together mems of Bugs and Rats & Guerilla Toss\nand this is what happens. \nExperimental metal works the rest of the way. Ehnahre are lords\nof such\, but here will be functioning as a two piece bringing more of a drone\nelement into their performance for the night. Providence’s Diabolical Fiend bring\nthe weird metal straight up and basically just absolutely rip. They don’t\ncome up to Boston enough. Myocastor Coypus are newer Boston area band that\nshred strangely and this is of course what makes them a new heavy favorite for\nus locals. Taking place in the spiritual Hope Central Church right up from Green Street Station in the heart of JP\,  Dreamscape  #11 is going to be an exorcize in acoustic and electronic soundscapin’. Our guests of honor this evening are House and Land\, the duo of Sally Anne Morgan (fiddle\, shruti box\, banjo\, vocals) and Sarah Louise Henson (vocals\, 12-string guitar\, shruti box\, bouzouki) honing traditional music often lost on “kids today” which is reason enough for us to perpetuate. Also pulling on the heartstrings of simpler times are locals Rob Noyes (coming from across the river) on guitar and Audrey Harrer (strolling up the street) on harp both of whom will fill the pulpit with incendiary picking\, plucking and strummin’. On the other end of the spectrum CLOTH and Anda Volley will unleash similarly gorgeous dream-themes from the confines of various metal and plastic boxes\, synths\, computers\, whatehaveyou. Their electronic offerings both ambient and engaging will go perfectly with VIDUMAMI’s visuals\, casting broad strokes of color and life all over the walls of this big beautiful room. DESCRIPTION:Hot off a new record (dropping this very month on Northern Spy) Larkin Grimm comes to town from NYC this Sunday night to delight and cast wonder upon all in attendance. This is an experimental soul exploration expedition and\, along with her fellow tour guides\, she will show you the path to the light to light the path to wherever you would like to go\, choose your own adventure. In direct support is North Shore based singer Aisha Burns who coopted our hearts last year at CityPop and was kind enough to give them back at the end of her set. Like Larkin\, Aishas music is a powerful fire despite being constructed with tender embers\, really a theme for the night. Similarly Gold Dime (latest project from Andrya of Talk Normal) brings together unconventional and downright challenging parts to construct gripping and somehow accessible movements. They themselves have a new record to tout (via Fire Walk). It is hard rock but it is hardly rock\, if that makes any sense. This band is hard to put into a category but they certainly fit in on this freakfolk\, strange-singer/songwriter showcase as it were. Setting the table this evening is area arts activist\, muralist and true muse Solei who\, when she is not making loop-based minimal soul and experimental soundscapes\, is organizing shows for various communities in the Greater Boston area. And what intimate cozy music we’ve got indeed: Ok\, so “singer/songwriter” is about as decaffeinated and meaningless a term as far as genre-fications go\, and it’s certainly not a designation we’re ever comfortable with; but sometimes you gotta call it like ya see’s it right? Hang on… what??? Well let’s explain… We welcome back Wes Buckley\, hot off his latest recording effort Changing Environments\, and still as cool as ever. Buckley gracefully – and frequently – oscillates between the weirder and the “normal” ends of the Americana spectrum; the twang from his electric guitar is strictly in that tradition\, but the periodic string flourishes expertly tow the indie folk/freak folk line. In short\, we’re not shy about the label singer/songwriter here; for the common ingredient with each song is exceptional songwriting. (and if you’re looking to point a guilty finger\, he’s also been known to record and collab with Michael Hurley). To boot\, an old UVM chum of Buckley’s and Whitehaus kin\, Pancho The Kid\, comes out of hibernation for a rare solo set\, which will likely comprise current and future Old Wave (his band of the moment) tunes. A reunion of this sort certainly needs to be balanced out by some fresh faces\, so naturally the evening features the chill and dark touch of Brittle Brian’s genius as well as Grace Givertz’s FIRST EVER Hassle show. Brittle Brian – human name ‘Victoria’ – it seems\, fits neatly on any bill\, but is most at home supporting cool noise and rock bands. We’re really excited to see her spin her ethereal web of vocal harmonies and strident\, emotional vocals in said company; the intricacies of her music are so subtle that they might otherwise slip through the cracks to the not-wholly-perceptive listener but bookended as she is by other singer/songwriters (man\, that feels good to say!) on this bill\, you’d have to be trying to miss something. Grace\, on the other hand is more in-your-face as the singer/songwriter on this bill\, and thank goodness because someone has to kick off this gentle party of beautiful people serving up music for the soul. This group features several MA-based players like Mia Friedman (Of Thousands\, Between Two Elk)\, Katie McShane (Listening Woman\, EKP)\, Jesse Heasly (Tredici Bacci)m Nick Neuberg (Particulars\, -1) and founding member of Guerilla Toss Andy Allen (Friendship Ceremonies\, Bang! Bros). It’s quite a sight.. and a mouthful of “members of” am i right? Plus Boston resident/Baltimore native Stone Filipczak will bring his SPY IN THE SKY project to push us off the shores of boredom\, bound for noisy waters. Sounds like a breath of FRESH AIR. On May 19 + 20 Boston Hassle’s nonprofit mother BRAIN Arts is organizing this two day benefit concert for BAGLY and GRCB at ARTFarm in Somerville\, thanks to the Somerville Arts Council. The show will feature several youth performers\, GRCB Club bands and Hassle favorites who are down for the causes. There will be drag queens\, prog-metal\, indie-emo\, pop\, techno\, playful and nasty hip hop\, techno and much more all between the hours of 6-midnight on Friday and 2-Midnight on saturday. We will be featuring our favorite food truck in all the land TACO PARTY plus local vendor of vendors Feminist Fiber Art plus tables from our charitable beneficiaries. If you havent been to ARTFarm it is located under McGrath highway just outside of Union Square\, Somerville. So take advantage of the great outdoors\, help two excellent youth-centric causes and party in a vacant lot with us this mid May weekend \nOur first outdoor event of the year\, and a fest to boot! As always the focus is on improvised hardware sets: these artists make great recordings but they’re still only documents compared to their live performances.\nWe’re excited to be hosting Montreal improviser Karl Fousek\, who’s releases on Phinery\, Spring Break Tapes\, and others show a skillful range on the modular while keeping things nice and abstract.  Similarly\, local Jimmy Hughes is always exploring the mutability of electronic music in his Dinnersss performances (“I’ve never seen Jimmy play the same setup twice.” – some guy at a show).\nIce Joke is the new collaboration of two old heads; Joe Bastardo and Mickey O’hara.  Combining modular synth with MAX/MSP they excel at keeping an organic flow of glitched out sounds that will entrance you and then snap you out of it\, repeatedly (“Ice Joke is the Autecture of Worcester.” – diff guy at diff show ).\nThe show starts at 9 with a techno set from local hardware jammers Hybrid Decliners.   \nVisuals and atmospheric transformations will be provided by Dirt Lux (http://www.dirtlux.com/)

Three of New England’s synth shut-ins come out of their caves to convene at Studio550\, alongside Austin’s Curved Light. \nWith new releases on Field Hymns and Holodeck Records\, and a slew of SXSW performances\, Peter Tran has been keeping busy as Curved Light. We’re excited to be hosting him as part of an east coast tour with New Hampshire’s Timothy Fife (check out his debut release of dark drones\, Black Carbon on vinyl at Death Waltz). \nThe night will be bookended by two local improvisers\, Prone and Bastian Void\, who are always exploring new sonic territory with their evolving projects.
