SUMMARY:HØUNDS/ Supplement/ Targus Targus
DESCRIPTION:Flyer by Brian Huntress @brianhuntress \nFrom sunny California come some of the darkest sounds – and for one summer night\, Dorchester Art Project will be home to the haunting noises of HØUNDS and SUPPLEMENT. Tossing in some local flavor will be Targus Targus\, whose eclectic sound palette will have you wondering if you’ve been transported to an alternate virtual reality. Is this real life or a video game? The only way to find out is to show up and immerse yourself in the noise. Industrial and experimental\, noise\, beats and spit. Need we say it? G2TG it. LOL Challenge your peers to make it down to Dorchester and visit a new neighborhood for good shows sake. \nHØUNDS\n \nSupplement\n \nTargus Targus\nv4 by targus | targus

SUMMARY:New England Underground Fest 3: Day 1 (6/15) + Day 2 (6/16)
DESCRIPTION:NEU3 \nFriday 6/15 @Hardcore Stadium 7pm-1am\n55 Bishop Allen Dr. Cambridge\, MA \nSaturday 6/16 @Art Farm (if it rains @Hardcore Stadium) 330pm-12am\n10 Poplar St\, Somerville\, MA \nALL AGES\n$10 in advance (each day)\n$15-$20 sliding @ the door (each day) \nProvidence’s CONTAINER headlines a massively diverse Day 1 bill of underground sounds oozing to Boston for the NEU this year. Spectrum Spools is putting out CONTAINER’s new record this month so we figured we should properly whet your appetite electronically before his set with an onslaught of New England electronic explorers: World War\, adammmmmmmm\, and !@#$%. \nPILE’s Rick McGuire will serve as the palette cleanse to the coming beat storm. Raw\, twisting and powerful\, the voice behind Pile is always captivating. Rick caps a night of world renowned dada-noise from Maine (id m theftable)\, wild noise rock from Rhode Island (Goon Planet)\, and the experimental psychedelic rock of Violet Nox. AND SO MUCH MORE! \nBoston’s OG SWAGGERDICK headlines an also massively diverse day 2 of this NEU3\, Boston Hassle’s celebration of all ONLY New England music and performance that is ignored by mainstream audiences & media! Day 2 is an OUTDOOR party @ Art Farm and we couldn’t agree more with Swaggerdick’s latest missive “Fuck Gentrification.” So great to have a great left of center Boston rapper like OG headline. And it’s a full on rap party to end the night with hard hitters Brandi Blaze and Ill Addicts\, both from Boston\, bringing plenty of verses\, and not playing around. Better be looking for a good time!!! \nLeading up to the hip hop fireworks are a bevy of New England underground sound treats for you: the blues punk theatrics of Boston legend Andy California\, Vermont oddball folk jewel Ruth Garbus\, lo-fi legends Gerty Farish & The Shrinnirs from Connecticut\, and loads more experimental wonders that you might never have even considered the existence of. SUMMARY:John Krausbauer\, Kaori Suzuki\, PRONE\, Chris Strunk
DESCRIPTION:Flyer by Rayjaun Pollard aka Cloudkarma @cloudkarma_rp \nDrone away the Monday blues with this noise gig at Dorchester Art Project. Metaphysical brain soup…slip into a gooey\, meditative state and let the sonic whirlwinds swallow all your doubts and fears. Two enigmatic and brilliant touring artists – John Krausbauer and Kaori Suzuki – are bringing their talents to beantown\, alongside the extraterrestrial echoes of locals Prone and Chris Strunk. Time to dream with your eyes open…get to the gig! \n\nJohn Krausbauer (b. Indianapolis) is a music conceptualist/multi-instrumentalist currently living in Oakland\, CA. \nHe has performed and presented his music in the U.S.\, Canada\, and Japan\, in a multitude of settings – from basements\, sidewalks\, and rock clubs to colleges\, churches\, and art galleries. Numerous recordings of his have been released on independent labels in the US\, Europe\, and Japan. \nA long time purveyor of the ur-drone and trance-psychedelia\, his work involves audio transmissions for TOTAL/immersive sensory experience. Transcendence through repetition\, duration\, alternate tunings\, maximum volumes\, and (often) stroboscopic lighting. \nHis current music projects include the Ecstatic Music Band (a 10+ member-collective of strings players); solo music for voice\, violin\, and synth; his collaboration with partner\, Kaori Suzuki\, with bells\, voices\, strings\, tape; the Minimalist psych-punk group Night Collectors; his systems-based phase compositions; and an ongoing collaboration with the steel bodied resonator guitar player\, R. Keenan Lawler. \nhttps://debaclerecords.bandcamp.com/album/blues-for-the-grave\nBlues for the Grave by John Krausbauer \n\nKaori Suzuki (b. Tokyo) is a composer of electronic and electroacoustic music living in Oakland\, CA. \nShe has toured the U.S. and Japan\, and has presented her solo and collaborative music in a variety of settings from DIY venues and galleries\, music festivals such as Debacle Fest (Seattle)\, S1 (Portland)\, and the San Francisco Electronic Music Festival\, to academic institutions such as Mills College\, Stanford (CCRMA)\, and Berkeley Art Museum. \nShe previously ran her instrument building project Magic Echo Music (2009-2015)\, collaborating with various musicians on creating custom interfaces and analog electronic instruments (ASTRO\, Mood Organ\, Manuel Knapp\, Panabrite). Selected synthesizer/feedback recordings are found on her CD\, Newsun (Sounds et al). \nHer recent music projects seek to create heightened listening states\, producing saturated tonal dimensions by way of auditory distortion products and other inner ear phenomena; her solo performances often involving high volume playback\, spatialization\, and long duration vhf-combination tones for maximum effects. She also plays in collaboration with partner\, John Krausbauer\, creating an immersive sound/light environment with tape\, voice\, bell percussion and amplified strings. \n \nPRONE\nBed Music Gold by Prone \nChris Strunk

SUMMARY:Carla dal Forno\, Erika Nesse\, sundog
DESCRIPTION:Flier Design: Digital Collage Series by @fearlessmindart – “MIND ART; the Road to CROWN” #mindart #crown #fearlessdupoux \n$12 Adv\, $12-15 DOS \nTickets:\nhttps://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3392110 \nBerlin via Australia just-out-of-reach pop + electronics conjurer Carla dal Forno is coming\nto visit us for what is no doubt going to be an intimate and special Boston Hassle\nshow in a special space (First Parish Church) in Harvard Square… \ndal Forno weaves the kind of songs (both in her solo work and her previous work with the likes of F ingers)\nthat are hushed but commanding and room filling. Some have conjectured that this may be due to the collision\nbetween worldiness and otherworldiness in her music. It is difficult to say for sure though. We can\,\nsurely say however\, that it is a rare treat to have Ms. dal forno performing in the Boston area. \nJoining Carla dal Forno on this bill will be fractal music maker and software designer\nErika Nesse whose music is fairly otherworldy in its own right I must say. Also on the bill is folk music maker\nSundog whose vibes are sad\, but it’s an uplifting sadness\, mostly. it won’t bring you further down\, but\ncould serve as a a comfortable sweater to rub if your already low. \nI think it’s a lovely show. \nCarla dal Forno\nhttps://blackesteverblack.bandcamp.com/album/you-know-what-its-like\nYou Know What It's Like by CARLA DAL FORNO \nErika Nesse\nInside Glass Gardens by Erika Nesse \nSundog\nThe Measured Mile by sundog

SUMMARY:Lonnie Holley quartet + Bill Orcutt solo
DESCRIPTION:Flyer by Gia \nLONNIE HOLLEY (quartet)\nBILL ORCUTT (solo) \nco-presented by Non-Event and the Boston Hassle \nFIRST PARISH IN CAMBRIDGE (Helverson Parlor)\n3 Church Street\, Harvard Square\n8pm | $15 gen / $12 students & Non-Event members \n“[Holley] makes the kind of sculpture–and produces the kind of music–that changes people. It gets into their emotional and intellectual core and forces them to rethink art and history\, as well as their own assumptions about how the world works.” – SF Weekly \nLONNIE HOLLEY is a self-taught sculptor and musician from Atlanta. His sculptures\, constructed from found materials\, are in the collections of The Whitney Museum\, The Smithsonian and The Metropolitan Museum of Art. In 2012\, at age 62\, Holley made his debut as a recording artist. His improvised songs defy easy categorization\, but their humanity\, unconventional beauty and surprising catchiness have brought Holley critical acclaim. He has released two albums on the Dust-To-Digital Label\, and performed with David Byrne\, Daniel Lanois and Bill Cunningham and many others. \nHolley’s songs and lyrics are improvised on the spot and morph and evolve with every event\, concert\, and recording. No two songs\, and no two shows\, are the same. The layers of sound in his music are the result of decades of evolving experimentation. \n \n“Orcutt plays with the spirit of a doomsday preacher\, spewing surreal\, dark imagery from a guitar with only four strings running down the neck of his acoustic.” – Pitchfork \nBILL ORCUTT’s sound is a hiccup-stuttered reimagining of blues guitar. One can hear familiar Southern folk scales between Orcutt’s jagged solo acoustic phrases\, pulling and pushing melodies into unresolved fragments that eventually come unmoored in vast and satisfying note-torrents. Former guitarist and founder of the noise/punk rock duo Harry Pussy\, Orcutt was already a significant name in experimental noise circles when he released his solo debut in ‘96\, and has published a string of releases since confirming his essential role in the contemporary experimental scene. \n \nNon-Event’s programming is supported in part by the Boston Cultural Council\, a local agency which is funded by the Massachusetts Cultural Council\, and admistrated by the Mayor’s Office of Arts + Culture.

SUMMARY:Bad History Month\, Giving Up (KY)\, NEST\, and Ragu
DESCRIPTION:Herter Park Amphitheatre 7pm All Ages\nFREE Outdoor Show! \nDIY stalwarts GIVING UP are actually more of a wont-quit outfit. This gang have become bonafide veterans of the Allston basement scene despite being based in Kentucky\, Iowa and Illinois. That’s cause they’re Sophomore Lounge crew\, our Louisville fam\, and they’ve been bringing their scrappy punk and pop realness to us Bostonians for over 5 years now. How appropriate then that Bad History Month will be around for this damn reunion – like that JP Drive In show in 2013 with G Toss and Saralee

SUMMARY:Dyr Faser\, Beau Mahadev (Ithaca)\, Robot Detective (Ithaca) and Sycophant
DESCRIPTION:Flyer art by Amelia May @ameliamay_dyrfaser \nThe other day I found a housing ad on Craigslist seeking a live-in hypnotist to help with “business.” It made me wonder how many people have the disposable income to hire other humans to live with them and alter their minds. If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be hypnotized\, and you’re not ready for the commitment of a live-in hypnotist\, and you have roughly 10 dollars\, an experimental gig at an art gallery might be your happy medium. Haunting the rafters of our space will be Dyr Faser\, Beau Mahadev (who has come all the way from Ithaca\, NY just to cast spells on you)\, Robot Detective and Sycophant. Come soak yourself in the liquid gold synth and bass; watch yourself dream with your eyes open; let the noise bring your ghosts and visions together in some ethereal dance. \nDyr Faser\nMetal Stare Down by Dyr Faser \nBeau Mahadev\ndesiring machines by Beau Mahadev \nRobot Detective\nUnhackable by Robot Detective \nSycophant \n

SUMMARY:Sonorium and Boston Hassle present...Storytime at the Ape’s Nest LIVE SONORIUM EDITION
DESCRIPTION:Doors 7:45 – Music 8:15 with Michael Rosenstein\, Death Shepherd\, Tyler Derryberry\, Abdul H Sherzai\, Chris Braiotta\, Talbot Talbot Talbot\, Angela Sawyer\, Aaron Bennett\, Vally D\, John Staley\, Riley Knispel. \nStorytime At The Apes Nest is not satisfied stepping out from their PODCAST realm into our real world\, where artists are worthless and showing everyone they ain’t. They have to go on and do it in SALEM too. This is a one of a kind show where comedians and poets and nonconforming writers recite surrealistic or otherwise weird ass stories with the help of local noise makers (known and obscure) creating the soundtrack on the spot. This one’s happening at a Witch Museum and will go no later than 11pm shart so do not be late or you will miss the chance to “know exactly how they feel!” after hearing my friend tell a story about an octopus riding the MBTA. \nhttp://www.apesnest.com/

SUMMARY:Your New {Cosmic} Reality - Light Works by Ben K Foley
DESCRIPTION:Opening reception Saturday May 26th\, 6-9pm\nGallery hours Saturdays and Sundays 12-6pm\nClosing reception Friday June 29th\, 6-9pm \nBen K Foley creates mind-bending 3-dimensional illusions using a wide range of recycled and repurposed industrial materials. Analog creations cleverly constructed to move viewers in an overwhelmingly digital world\, these simple sculptures create complex interactive visual experiences\, often referencing aspects of Zen\, numerology\, and universal patterns in math and nature. These expressions encourage play and wonder deep within ones perception of space and time. \nCurrently working in and outside Boston\, Ben K Foley has shown work in galleries and museums in the US and Europe\, and is honored to have been granted residencies and opportunities for permanent installations both domestically and abroad. BKF’s unique practice as a kinetic light artist began while studying architecture and drafting at Colorado College. He is an affiliate with Collision Collective out of MIT\, a founding member of the CartoonLife crew\, as well as former administrator of DAP.

BRAIN ARTS ORG serve as a platform for emerging & boundary pushing local artists of all kinds. Exclusively volunteer-run\, Boston Hassle is committed to lifting local independent & underground arts and music to the perceptual forefront! And SO these weirdos converge this evening to take over a space that some might only consider suitable for trained musicians and explode like a 4 pack of SURGE or some other high-octane fizzy bev getting all shook up. SUMMARY:Malcolm Mooney (of CAN and Tenth Planet) and HERBCRAFT
DESCRIPTION:Flyer by Solei \nTicket Link: https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3432709 \nSo until this month I screened all my phone calls. But then I got a voicemail frpm Malcolm Mooney (of fucking CAN). “Hey Sam this is Malcolm Mooney from CAN.” I was a bit petrified.. Did I miss the opportunity to speak to this highly influential and super far out poet\, artist\, educator who sang YOO DOO RIGHT among other classic jams of my life!? Well\, no. Malcolm called me repeatedly that week\, clearing all the details for a last minute show in Boston he’d like me to set up. I dont know if I was more honored that he was pointed in the direction of Boston Hassle or inspired that this 80 year old legend is still booking his own shows personally. Anyway\, I immediately thought of HERBCRAFT cause even if this rare chance to see a decorated poet in a basement in Davis Sq falls on deaf\, uneducated ears at least our boys from Maine will hold it down in the front row after giving it all they got. So don’t be like me and screen this show call cause you might not get another chance to see this dude. This coming Wednesday May 23rd at 8:30pm at the First Church Somerville up the street from Davis Sq. \n \n“Push Thru The Veil” b/w “Version” by Herbcraft

SUMMARY:Bald Uakari (Goodbye Uakari)\, ____highlightreel\, and Melissa Weikart
DESCRIPTION:All Ages\n$10 suggested donation \nDang another wild band lost to the brain drain. Boston is famous for this heartache tho… radical musicians (or radical musicians in the making) come to town\, meet each other\, get busy and birth a new band into Bostons bosom only to graduate (or drop the fuck out) and go their separate ways. Like I said it’s not uncommon but it still hurts for the die hard locals who are left yearning to fill the void left by the rad band. In this case the rad band is Bald Uakari\, the school is Berklee and the void is exciting\, experimental improvised “music” that rejects all genre confines. It’s all jazz to us tho. That’s why we let them program their own norse funeral party here\, setting the place on fire\, pushing it off the shore and watching it burn. The Uakari will burn one last time with psycholectrio ______highlightreel and way far-out on us pop song steez of Melissa Weikart. Come say bye to the ugly monkey and maybe conceive of the next baboon to fill the void with one of the other bananas at the show. \nBald Uakari\nhttp://www.balduakari.com/\nallotropy by Bald Uakari \n____hightlightreel\nhttps://blankhighlightreel.bandcamp.com/releases\ntor browser talk therapy by ____highlightreel \nMelissa Weikart\nhttps://hectapes.bandcamp.com/album/coffee\nCoffee by Melissa Weikart

SUMMARY:Vegetators (mems of Macula Dog)\, Valerie Martino\, TRNGS\, Seraah
DESCRIPTION:Flyer by Aja Woodward @young_onionbean and Solei \nVEGETATORS have been sharpening their synthesizers for years\, honing their appalling live electronic assault for just the right moment. From NYC they come and costumes they employ and they know if you’ve been good little girls or boys or non-binary persons. Synth attack music. Party music for dangerous people. How dangerous are you?\nVALERIE MARTINO used to UH-O for years\, now she just makes rooms wobble all natural-like\, fat bass necco techno master class being in session every time this Providence wonder works her magic around here.\nTRNGS and SERAAH bring two very different\, very distinct flavors of Boston’s underground electronic communities to the table offering up experimental electronics couched in different dance music and pop music styles that move the body and engage the mind. Bombastic and not to be missed this show is from top to bottom. And it all goes down @ Hassle Headquarters. Brain Arts’ very own gallery/performance space & meeting space… Dorchester Art Project. \nVegatators (mems of Macula Dog)\nMacula Dog by Macula Dog \nValerie Martino\nDream Machine by Unicorn Hard-On \nTRNGS\nlaptop cremation by TRNGS \nSeraah\nChrome Tears by Seraah

SUMMARY:Lord Youth\, Grandmother Miracles\, Miles Hewitt (of Solars)\, Tuft
DESCRIPTION:Noir folk from New York\, what’s that mean? Nah… folks I’m not telling you here. You have to come out to find out. LORD YOUTH is Micah Blaichman and he’s playing some kind of somber poppy folk rock that twists when you’d think it would turn\, and that’s just what we’re looking for. His recent record Gray Gardens is very nice.\nGRANDMOTHER MIRACLES (led by Vincent Taino) comes from a soul soaked folk place\, delicate guitar work maneuvering gently\naround vocals that bend but never break and are full of yearning\, and if you’re open and you’re listening\, you’ll hear this music calling to you. Really special\, and a fantastic recent discovery in my own backyard.\nMIKE HEWITT is the writer of songs for the Boston band SOLARS\, and is another delightful and recent discovery who nails down a bounding and rich chamber pop/folk rock sound w/ his band. Here solo his songs will surely continue to delight though unadorned. Good songwriting is good songwriting friends.\nTUFTS rounds out a rich and diverse guitar-centric bill with their lo-fi indie pop/rock. Earnest and heartbreaking Jessica Hesse sings\ndirectly to your soul.\nIt all goes down @ Boston Hassle’s lovely performance space/art gallery & meeting place\, Dorchester Art Project! \nAll Ages\n$5 – $10 sliding scale \nLord Youth\nhttps://lordyouth.bandcamp.com/\nGray Gardens by Lord Youth \nGrandmother Miracles\nhttps://www.grandmothermiracles.com/\n \nThe Solars (Mike Hewitt)\nhttps://thesolars.bandcamp.com/\nRetitled Remastered by The Solars \nTuft\nWhoever Gets You in the End by Tuft
