DESCRIPTION:Moon Villain presents a night of free jazz at Studio 550 in Central Sq.\nThree sets of improvisers with live video accompaniment from Chris Konopka. \nNYC-based trio M/S/T returns to Boston with their debut album (released on digital and cassette at moonvillain.com). Saxophone sandwiched between double drum sets will make for an ear-meal to remember. Check out the album here: \nM/S/T by M/S/T \nDamon Smith has become a driving force in the free improv scene\, playing bass alongside an impressive list contemporary performers including John Butcher\, Henry Kaiser\, Weasel Walter\, Ava Mendoza\, Joe McPhee\, Sandy Ewen\, and many more.\nFor this event\, he’ll be playing solo though; performing an untitled piece by Cecil Taylor. \n \nKicking off the night will be a set from Brain Coat 3 – a new trio of veteran players featuring Keiichi Hashimoto (guitar\, brass\, reeds)\, Jim Warshauer (reeds\, flutes)\, and Eric Dahlman (trumpet\, electronics). \nWe’re excited to return to this venue which has served us well in the past. Three of New England’s synth shut-ins come out of their caves to convene at Studio550\, alongside Austin’s Curved Light. \nWith new releases on Field Hymns and Holodeck Records\, and a slew of SXSW performances\, Peter Tran has been keeping busy as Curved Light. We’re excited to be hosting him as part of an east coast tour with New Hampshire’s Timothy Fife (check out his debut release of dark drones\, Black Carbon on vinyl at Death Waltz). \nThe night will be bookended by two local improvisers\, Prone and Bastian Void\, who are always exploring new sonic territory with their evolving projects. As Foodman\, Takahide Higuchi has become “an unofficial ambassador for Japan’s weird electronic music scene”\, collaging footwork grooves with the rich\, oddball samples and midi work that embodies the label’s aesthetic.
