SUMMARY:Opening Reception: Hot Meat - an interactive art show by Bed Hermin
DESCRIPTION:Bed Hermin is a self-described international interdisciplinary artist whose works have ranged from public interaction works to spontaneous musical medlies. With works ranging different styles\, forms\, and methods\, a singular constant in Bed Hermin’s pieces is the exploration of the unknown. This is perhaps due to the consistent life changes Bed has weathered. Feeding an insatiable artistic curiosity\, Bed is currently channeling that energy into the pursuit of a Masters degree in Expressive Arts Therapy at Lesley University. \nBed Hermin’s art will be up for sale ranging from $20-80. Bed is also placing her work up for adoption. To find out more about this exciting opportunity to house art and engaging in art guardianship outside of traditional capitalist systems\, feel free to reach out to the art director\, Lauren Shapiro at darwinsonmtauburn.gallery@gmail.com\, or Bed Hermin directly via their website: http://www.bedhermin.com/contact-us.html. Adoption forms will be available at the cafe over the duration of the exhibition. \nFor more information about Bed Hermin\, visit her website: http://www.bedhermin.com\nor find her on Instagram: @bedhermin \nLive music from Morgan Johnston!\nA little about the artist:\nHailing from just outside of Providence\, Rhode Island\, Morgan Johnston is a folk singer-songwriter stomping\, strumming\, speaking\, and singing her way to empowering both herself and her listeners. Her guitar and vocal arrangements are inspired by the natural landscape of places\, such as Ireland\, as much as by the emotional landscape of human experience. Currently studying to become a music therapist\, she is constantly reminded of the healing power of the music that she aims to share. \nhttp://morganjohnstonmusic.com/\n@MorganJohnstonMusic\nhttps://www.facebook.com/MorganJohnstonMusic/\nhttps://www.youtube.com/user/musicbylane \nLight food and refreshments are provided at this kid-friendly event. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Artist Reception +Talk: In Over My Head
DESCRIPTION:Join the Harvard Ed Portal for a reception celebrating the latest Crossings Gallery exhibition\, In Over My Head. Using photography\, audio\, and archival material\, In Over My Head forms a complex narrative that is rooted in the labor of a specific person and place\, but is also inherently fictional. Even as it captures artist Thalassa Raasch’s experience of digging graves\, grieving the recent deaths of her uncle and grandmother\, and living with gravedigger Everard and his family\, the material aspires to transform the barrens of northern Maine into an imagined River Styx. In doing so\, Raasch\, A.B. ’10\, envisions a place where death is beautiful\, comfortable\, difficult\, and humorous but also an accepted\, quotidian fact. \n  \nOpen October 15th-November 21st \nMonday-Thursday 10am-7pm and Friday 10pm-5pm

SUMMARY:Artists Reception - Mapping Worlds 2 (Hello Spaceus Annex!!)
DESCRIPTION:The seasons are definately turning\, and while the vegetables in our gardens have stopped growing\, Spaceus seems to be growing like a bean! \nYou may have been able to catch Mapping Worlds Part 1 at the Roslindale Substation\, Spaceus’ summer location. Well the ideas continue into the group’s new(NEW) location in East Cambridge\, which they are calling the Annex. \n  \nMapping Worlds 2 is the first installation in the Spaceus Annex. \nMapping has a number of applications—from geographies\, to experiences\, to data\, tracing migrations\, narratives of displacement\, and movement of people. Map makers also hold power as the visualization of borders\, spaces\, and structures–real or imagined–influence one’s understanding of the world. How can we use mapping as a tool of empowerment? What application of mapping are you utilizing to explore the world around you? How do we map worlds? What are the implications of mapping? \n  \nSpaceus asks that you RSVP through Eventbrite \n  \nThis exhibition has been organized by Isabel Beavers \nArtists and the pieces they are involved with are: \nJean Chung\nObject Treasure\n\nPedro Cruz\, John Wihbey\, Avni Ghael\, Felipe Shibuya\nSimulated Dendrochronology of US Immigrations\n\nJeremy Endo\nSwing from the bushes\nGolf Course on the Strip\nKimono Tapestry 3\nKimono Tapestry 4\n\nAllison Gray\n(After) Mount Mansfield\nUntitled\n\nMitsuko Nakagawa\nTransitions\, no2\n\nKendall Reiss\nVerdigris Study\nEvolution 1: Landscape\nTorii Gate\n\nLaine Rettmer\nNew West\n\nAllison Maria Rodriguez\nIn the presence of Absence – Carmen & Joaquin\n\nSanghyun Suh\nMapping of the translation from digital to reality\n\nWilliam Van Beckum\nBears Ears\n\nThe exhibition will be up through October 12th by appointment only!

SUMMARY:Closing Reception: Matter of Intention with Chloe DuBois and Renée Silva
DESCRIPTION:Boston Hassle’s Chloe DuBois and painter\, Renée Silva are are exploring ideas of intention and material through careful curation. \nPeople tend to compartmentalize and organize every aspect of their lives. Systematic categorization seems to be engrained in our mental and physical habits. \nExperience these ideas at the Harvard Ed Portal’s Crossings Gallery. \nThe exhibition is on view Monday-Thursday 10am-7pm and Friday 10am-5pm. From now until October 4th. There is a closing reception on the 4th from 5-7pm.

SUMMARY:Opening Reception: Violence Transformed\, Stand Together
DESCRIPTION:Violence Transformed\, Stand Together demonstrates the ability of art and artists to confront and mediate violence through social awareness\, social change\, and social justice. The exhibit pairs individuals from the Tufts art community – teachers\, artists\, students\, and mentors – to create works either collaboratively or in conversation with each other. These works challenge the hate\, bigotry\, and violence that permeate our society and propose a more tolerant future. Through this exhibition\, Violence Transformed hopes to open up socially engaged art to more diverse audiences and promote a socially-conscious culture. \nTo learn more about Violence Transformed\, visit: www.ViolenceTransformed.com \nThe exhibition will be on view at the Tufts University Art Galleries from September 29th to November 4th \nA reception will be held on October 2nd from 6 to 8 pm \n
