Urochromes’ new EP, Night Bully, out on Wharf Cat Records presents two distinct sides of the band and a strong testament to what keeps them compelling. On the A-side is three tracks of the sexy Chrome-inspired drum-machine post-punk we all know and love. The B-side introduces something new. “Night Bully” plays out like a moodier L.O.T.I.O.N., taking its EBM/industrial punk queues but taking a more laid back approach. Jackie’s whispered vocals create an atmosphere both menacing soothing. Following that up is a remix from Boy Harsher, turning “Night Bully” into a dreamy 80s synthpop banger – with a few industrial and noise accents – that would fit in well alongside your favorite Soft Cell tracks. Night Bully is a front-to-back banger that provides outstanding work in both old and new territory. Also keep your eyes peeled for the live tape, Beat Session Vol. 2, coming from Shout Recordings – this one has a drummer ‘n everything. Beat Session Vol. 2 features an excellent version of Night Bully’s “Confront Ya.”
