(3/8) MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS (1944) DIR. VINCENTE MINNELLI @SOMERVILLE

by

Before Liza Minnelli was a thing, her father was one of the kings of Hollywood musicals. Director Vincente Minnelli’s soon-to-be wife and Liza’s mother Judy Garland starred in MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS – a charming, affectionate boy meets girl story. The film follows the lives of the well-to-do members of the Smith family, all set to iconic music and spurring the popularity of songs such as “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.”

Released to critical success, the film still holds up today. At least if singing ladies (Judy Garland is likely the best of these), trolley cars, and fancy balls are things you’re into.
